THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15

Redstone Quarry Program. Steve Swenson, local granite history enthusiast, will present a slide show and lecture for the North Conway Public Library at 7 p.m. at the Mount Washington Weather Discovery Center on Main Street in North Conway Village (next to Citizens Bank). Parking is available. The program is provided free and open to the public by the North Conway Public Library; donations are gratefully accepted. Refreshments will be served, including coffee and sweets from Frontside Grind. Swenson will follow up the talk with a walking-hiking tour of the former quarry area at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17. Mount Washington Valley Economic Council Annual Meeting And Awards.
 Mount Washington Valley Economic Council Annual Meeting & Awards, is tonight at the Red Jacket Mountain View Resort in North Conway. Ossipee Watershed Presentation. The Ossipee Watershed Coalition and the Green Mountain Conservation Group will host a forum on 10 years of water quality data that have been collected in the Ossipee watershed, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Runnells Hall, 25 Deer Hill Road in Chocorua Village. Research scientists from UNH and Plymouth State University will present analyses of tributary, lake, and lake-sediment data. All are welcome. Jackson Historical Society. Jackson Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. at the Whitney Center in Jackson. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m., with speaker David Govatski, a naturalist from Jefferson, who will talk on "Feeding Birds in Winter." The illustrated slide program also covers using different types of bird feeders, where to place them and what types of food to stock them with.

'Next to Normal.' M&D Productions is presenting "Next to Normal," a powerfully touching heartfelt musical which mines the humor and pathos of a suburban family grappling with mental illness, at 7:30 p.m. at Your Theatre in North Conway. Program On Family Stories: How And Why To Remember Them And Tell Them. Storyteller and historian Jo Rader will present Family Stories: How and Why to Remember Them and Tell Them at 7 p.m. in the John F. Chick Room at the Madison Library. A NH Humanities Council program with storyteller and historian Jo Radner, who will share foolproof ways to mine memories and to interview relatives for meaningful stories. Writers' Night. Writers' night at the Effingham Library located at 30 Townhouse Road in Effingham will feature songs, poetry and stories on Thursday evening Nov. 15. Former Portsmouth poet laureate, John Perrault returns to writers' night with a new songs and favorite poems and stories. Perrault will be followed by an open mic opportunity for others to share a piece of original writing or acoustic music (up to five minutes). Pizza for Fields Fundraiser. Bartlett Recreation will hold a Pizza for Fields Fund-raiser at Shannon Door Pub, 4:30-11 p.m. Bartlett Recreation's Field and Facility fund will received $1 from every pizza sold. Dine in or out. There will also be a Chinese auction of more than 20 items, with an 8 p.m. drawing time.

Rotary Radio Auction. The annual Rotary Radio Auction will be held on the evenings of Nov. 12-15 on WMWV 93.5 FM. Proceeds from the four night auction will support the Rotary Club's many good works. Email info@northconwayrotary.org for more information.

'Sing and Play the Blues with Willie J. Laws.' Art Council of Tamworth is bringing Texas bluesman Willie J. Laws to Tamworth. He will be at the Tamworth Lyceum from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for “Sing and Play the Blues with Willie J. Laws,” a workshop and song circle for musicians of all skill levels and community members of all ages. Bring your instrument, if you play one, come sing, or just listen in. Workshop is free; donations welcome.

Edible Mushroom Talk. Green Mountain Conservation Group will be sponsoring a talk on edible mushrooms at 6 p.m. at the Ossipee Public Library. Green Mountain Conservation Group Youth Coordinator and mushroom enthusiast Stephanie Doyle will go over mushroom basics, discuss the rules of mycophagy, and give some examples of wild edibles. Holiday Crafts Workshop. Home Depot in North Conway will hold Ladies night and offer a do-it-herself workshop on holiday crafts 630-8 p.m.

Moose Man Presentation. The Lakes Region Chapter of the Audubon Society of New Hampshire will feature a presentation titled "The Moose Man" at 7:30 p.m. at the Loon Center in Moultonborough. Rick Libbey, now commonly known as the Moose Man, has been photographing moose from as close as four feet away for 25 years, using a camera on a monopod in his kayak. The Loon Center is located on Lee's Mill Road; follow the signs from Route 109 or from Route 25 near the Moultonborough Central School. Refreshments will be served.

Dickens Village. The Conway Village Congregational Church will hold a Dickens Village holiday fair 4-8 p.m. at the church (the brown church) at 132 Main Street in Conway Village.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16

Redstone Quarry Walking Tour. 
Steve Swenson, local granite history enthusiast, will guide a walking-hiking tour of the former Redstone Quarry area at 9:30 a.m. Participants should meet at the triangular park at the entrance to Redstone Village just off Route 302, east of Walmart, at the southern end of the North-South Road. Zippity Zoo
The North Conway Day Care Center is hosting Zippity Zoo of the W.I.L.D. Center and Zoological Park at 10 a.m. This is a half hours educational program for children ages 3 to 5 years of age. The public is welcome to this half-hour presentation, which includes a visit from three mystery animal guests. The event will be held in the Reverence for Life Building adjacent to the First Church of CHrist on Main Street in North Conway.

Huggins Hospital Aid Sale. Huggins Hospital Aid will hold a fund-raiser sale at the collection center barn on Route 109A at Beck Drive, Wolfeboro, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Items include grandfather clock, nice dining room set, antiques, books, art, collectibles, household, sports, toys, and more. 'The White Show' Opening. The Jackson Art Studio and Gallery located at 155 Ridge Road in Jacksonwill present "The White Show" opening from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The show is featuring 22 local artists' interpretation of the theme white. In keeping with this theme there will be white wine and white chocolate from the Bavarian Chocolate House. There will also be live music featuring Lauren Houlihan and Rebecca Moore, both music teachers at Josiah Bartlett School. The show is open to the public and will continue on Saturday and Sunday, Nov 17 and 18, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. All work will be for sale. The show is free and open to the public. Willie J. Laws Workshops and Concert. Art Council of Tamworth is bringing Texas bluesman Willie J. Laws to Tamworth. In the morning, Laws will be at the K.A. Brett School teaching kids in the younger grades about the blues. Interested homeschoolers can contact the school for schedule information at 323-7271. At 2 p.m. at the Brett School, Laws will be joined by his band, with Ephraim Lowell on drums and Malcolm Stuckey on bass, for a presentation/performance, "The History of the Blues in America." The public is welcome. Large group should let the school know in advance. At 7:30 p.m. at The Brass Heart Inn in Chocorua, see the Willie J. Laws Band live in concert, and to participate in ACT's pre-Thanksgiving silent pie auction. Harvest Supper and Pie Auction. St. Andrew's-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church, located at 678 Whittier Road in Tamworth (just off of Route 25 West), will its Harvest Supper and Pie Auction annual fundraiser. The supper begins at 6 p.m. and features a hearty homemade beef stew (as well as an alternative for those who don't eat red meat), salad, bread, dessert, and beverages. The cost is $10 per adult and $5 for children age 12 and younger. Guests are welcome to bring their own wine or beer. The auction will begin at 7 p.m., with a chance to view the offerings and pick out favorite pies ahead of time. Arthur Surrette At Effingham Historical Society. Effingham Historical Society will host guest performer Arthur Surrette at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at the socity building, located at 1014 Province Lake Road (Route 153 South) in Center Effingham. White Show Opening At Jackson Art Studio. The Jackson Art Studio and Gallery will present "The White Show," opening, 6-8:30 p.m. The show features 22 local artists' interpretation of the theme white. Freedom Rings in the Holidays Church Luncheon. The Freedom Rings in the Holidays Church Luncheon will be held 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the old town hall next to First Christian Church. The proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the pastor's discretionary fund. The luncheon will feature the famous minestrone soup and corn chowder as well as sandwiches and desserts. Also featured will be a raffle of gift certificates and other items. Tickets may be purchased at the Town Hall Friday evening and beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. Winter Craft Faire. There will be a winter craft faire at White Mountain Waldorf School from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. The craft faire is a true product of the families and friends of the Waldorf School without whose hard work and talent the event would not be possible. Snow Dance At Black Mountain. Black Mountain and the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce will hold a snow dance, and are inviting one and all to join fellow dancers and pay homage to the snow spirits on today at the mountain, 4-8 p.m. Join Black Mountain's professional snow dancer, Carlene Sullivan from Symmetree Yoga in a tribute to the snow gods. New Suncook PTA Auction. The New Suncook PTA Annual Auction is tonight. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and the auction will begin promptly at 6 p.m. Come early for a preview of items ranging from restaurant gift certificates, gift baskets, children's bicycles, gym memberships, attraction tickets, passes to ski resorts and an autographed baseball by Kevin Youkilis to name a few.

Craft Fair. North Country Dental's sixth annual fall craft fair is from 9 a.m. to 2: p.m. at the Ed Fenn Elementary School in Gorham. The North Country Dental Fall Craft Fair is a charitable event to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The event is open to the public. A variety of goods by local crafters will be for sale. Bean Supper. There will be a bean supper at the Moultonville Methodist Church, at 96 Moultonville Road in Center Ossipee, with seatings at 5 and 5:45 p.m., to benefit the church oil fund.

Author Theodore Sares Book Signing Event. Author Theodore Sares will be at The Met in North Conway from 1 to 3 p.m. Sares, a resident of North Conway will be available to sign copies of his book, "Shattered," a collection of true-crime essays.

Conway Contra Dance. The next dance in the Conway Contra Dance series will be held in the lovely hall at Tin Mountain on Bald Hill Road in Albany. There will be a potluck supper starting at 6:30 p.m., with the dance starting promptly at 7:30 p.m. and running through 9:30 p.m. Music will be by Zythyra Austen and Beverly Woods both calling and playing. This special dance is family friendly and comfortable for the new or novice dancer.
All dances will be taught. It's sure to be equally enjoyable for the experienced fan. Sit-in acoustic musicians are welcome.

Craft Fair. The Fryeburg Academy Teachers' Association will hold its annual craft fair at the Wadsworth Arena in Fryeburg from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Last year for the 37th annual Fryeburg Academy Teachers' Association Craft Fair, more than 40 crafters participated.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 19

Memorial Hospital Community Information Meeting.Memorial Hospital is holding a community information meeting to talk about about the hospital's recently announced decision to pursue membership in the MaineHealth system, 5;30-7 p.m. at The Red Jacket Motor Inn in North Conway. Patients of Memorial Hospital and members of the Mount Washington Valley community are encouraged to attend. MaineHealth is a not-for-profit health care system based in Portland. Its members include Maine Medical Center and 11 other hospitals and health-related organizations in Maine. Hospital Board of Trustees Chair Gene Bergoffen and CEO Scott McKinnon will briefly outline details of the potential partnership with MaineHealth and what it means for Memorial and health care in the Mt. Fryeburg Business Association Meeting. The Fryeburg Business Association membership meeting is at 6 p.m. at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds, in the meeting room upstairs in the main gate building. All are welcome; you do not have to be a member to attend. The guest speaker is Mike Corthell; his topic: "Using Social Media to Enhance Your Business."

Jackson Ski Touring Foundation Public Potluck and Bonfire. Potluck dinners at Jackson Ski Touring Foundation are a long tradition of social gathering and great food. This first potluck of the season will be preceded by a sacrificial "burning of the skis" bonfire and snow dance! Olympian Charlie Kellogg has donated a pair of his skis used in the 1964 Military World Championships. Bids to save the skis, and raise money for the nonprofit, have been ongoing throughout November. Come find out if the Snow Deity will be appeased! Bonfire starts at 5:30 p.m. Potluck starts with appetizers at 6 p.m. People are asked to bring a dish to feed six to eight people and settings for their party. "Star in the East" Craft Fair. The Pythagorean Chapter 169, Order of the Eastern Star, in Fryeburg, will hold its annual craft fair 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Masonic Hall on Portland Street. Listen to carols as you shop and enjoy the wonderful aromas of Christmas. There will be wreaths, baked goods, ornaments, hand made crafts, a white elephant table and much more.

Christmas Craft Fair. The 12th annual Christmas Craft Fair, will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Carroll Town Hall gymnasium, in Twin Mountain, The fair benefits the Twin Mountain-Bretton Woods Historical Society. Free admission. Call 846-5434 for more information.

Snowflake Festival. Celebrate the holidays in Schouler Park in North Conway Village with the Snowflake Festival
3-7 p.m. at Norcross Circle Shops; Schouler Park Skating Rink Ribbon Cutting at 4 p.m. and Schouler Park Tree Lighting at 5 p.m. M&D Productions will be perform a scene from "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" and will lead the onlookers in Caroling.

Great Glen Craft Fair. The 12th Annual Great Glen Craft Fair will be held at the Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center lodge on Route 16 in Pinkham Notch on Saturday, November 24 from 9am to 3pm. More than 30 talented crafters and artisans will be on site with their diverse array of handmade offerings. Also included in the day will be a bake sale and a benefit raffle which will support the Great Glen Trails Bill Koch Youth Ski League. Admission to the Great Glen Craft Fair is free and the Glen View Café will be open for lunch. Breakfast with Santa. The Masonic Temple in North Conway will hold a Breakfast with Santa-, 8-11 a.m., with a buffet breakfast, photo with Santa, gift and candy cane, and raffle. Accepting donations at the door. All proceeds benefit Bartlett Recreation Scholarship Fund.
